This week Apps Depot acquired and updated some portable utilities. We do not cover all of new apps that were added these days. The weekly bulletin only informs on some of them. You can browse through hundreds of portable applications and get instant access to them with Apps Depot, which is available with CodySafe Sigma, CodySafe Protect, or CodySafe Solid Crypto.

IZArc2Go – A utility for operation of compressed and encoded files, possessing many powerful features and tools. It allows you to drag and drop files from and to Windows Explorer, create and extract archives directly in Windows Explorer, create multiple archives spanning disks, creating self-extracting archives, repair damaged zip archives, converting from one archive type to another, view and write comments and many more. Of course you will find it under “Files Compression & Packaging” sub-category in the Utilities

Xinorbis – a hard disk analyzer offering complete overview of the contents of hard disks, folders, removable or network drives. It can generate a full report  with graphs, tables and tree displays. It makes it easy to see the contents, structure and file distribution and file composition of a whole hard disk, directory, or mapped network drive. Look for Xinorbis under the “System Information” sub-category.

TypingAid - this auto-completion tool can help to improve typing speed and productivity. Therefore, it was added under “Productivity” sub-category. The author also claims that it can reduce the risk of RSI (Repetitive strain injury), but frankly speaking we have never seen a person with lacerated wounds caused by intensive typing. However, with proper set up, TypingAid could also be used as an aid for language learners and computer users with Dyslexia, writing difficulty, hand disability, etc.

Tasktom – added under “Organization” sub-category of the Office tools. This personal information manager which allows you to maintain a list of events, diary entries, tasks, notes, etc allowing you complete control over the information - including the ability to search, format, print, export and customize data

And a couple of entertainment apps.

Xion - a light and easily skinnable Audio Player. Xion's approach to skinning will remove all scripting and slicing requirements that other skin systems have placed on users. Xion Audio Player will directly read a .PSD file and using layer names, instantly bring your skin to life.

Songbird a multimedia tool offering crystal clear playback, seamless streaming. It can manage your music, sync your library, build playlists, browse, search, sort and sync your handheld and get your media to go.

We launch CodySafe Protect ^Beta today. It was worth waiting till the date, because Beta means free and CodySafe means great...

CodySafe Protect is the software tool that prevents unauthorized access to your files by setting password protection to your flash drive and dividing it to several partitions. Your files on the protected partition will be available only after you provide correct password.

This partitioning process involves significant changes to the structure of the memory. It is worth mentioning that the industry of portable drives is very large and continues intensively growing. There are many vendors and manufacturers of USB flash drives. And therefore, there is a chance that the drive that is currently in your hands cannot be upgraded to the protected one. Never mind.We will offer you anothersolution soon.  Codyssey continues development. Meanwhile – the free Beta release is open.

Those who were interested to set password on their flash drives, those who wanted to protect their files at home or at work and those who is willing to prevent access to their sensitive information, all of you are welcome to download and to install CodySafe Protect ^Beta.

This week was pretty fruitful. Here are more programs added to the Apps Depot:

CintaNotes - a lightweight and user-friendly PIM (personal information manager). CintaNotes can become an assistant in the daily task of organizing information, registering your own thoughts and ideas, for the history, quotes from famous people other than you, research data, curious facts, Wikipedia entries, you name it. PIMs can be found in the Apps Depot under Office - > Other Category.

Block Pusher - a puzzle game that plays rather similarly to Sokoban, in which you solve puzzles by pushing one block at a time and being very careful not to trap yourself into a corner while doing it. There are items to collect in certain rooms, although the game doesn't actually reward you with anything even if you do manage to acquire them all. Pressing the F4 function key switches between full screen and windowed mode, while the R key can be used to reset a puzzle whenever you're stuck.

Imagine - a lightweight, easy to use yet powerful images viewer with basic editing capabilities. The application can be found in the Graphics and Design category of the Apps Depot

GetFoldersize - great utility that allows determining which programs are taking up your hard disk space, to determine the size of folders and sub-folders on your hard drive. For each folder, you can display the total file size and the number of files and subfolders in the folder.

ProduKey - like any other software program designed by Nir Sofer, this tool can be extremely useful tool that displays the ProductID and the CD-Key of Microsoft Office (Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office 2007), Windows (Including Windows 7 and Windows Vista), Exchange Server, and SQL Server installed on a computer. The application can be found in the Utilities - >System Info category of the Apps Depot

This week additions to Apps Depot included several useful portable applications that are useful mostly to those of you who deal with graphics and design.

AMP Font Viewer - an easy to use but powerful font manager, which allows getting a quick overview of both installed and non installed fonts, install and uninstall fonts, and organize them in categories.

JPEGView is an images viewer designed to view images from digital cameras in full screen mode and with highest quality possible. It also allows correcting typical problems as color cast, high/low contrast and under- or overexposure.

MobaPhoto is a nice freeware for managing your digital photos allowing to resize, crop, correct red-eyes also in "batch-mode". In addition it allows easy creation of photo galleries and uploading them on a website.

Zzoom - A free screen zoomer, color picker and image grabber was also added to graphics and design category.

Dynamic Draw, a small and simple vector graphics editor. It is useful for making flowcharts, line drawings, org charts, buttons, etc. The application was added to the Office category (“Other” subcategory) of Apps Depot, but it can be also found under Graphic and Design category

We have also added a Rapid Typing Tutor to the Educational software category of the Apps Depot. Actually it could be added to games as well. Rapid Typing Tutor is designed to teach adults and kids to use their computer keyboard more efficiently than ever. Learning to type is fun with its typing game. The application offers extensive training statistics and customized lessons.

CodySafe Apps Depot was recently extended with new portable apps. We have noticed that the games section has gained the tremendous interest. It is quite clear that employees enjoy playing portable games rather than installing them to the workstation at work. It is obvious. Portable games keep scores and scenes on a flash drive, allowing user to continue playing at home from the same point. From the other side, in emergency (when the boss is coming close) user can always kill the running application and clear all history and traces with one “emergency” action. You can always click on CodySafe’s “Exit” or “Eject” button or even unplug the drive (though we do not recommend doing it) and all the games running from the drive will disappear along with all the chats of the instant messenger, web pages with browsers and all other applications running from the portable drive will disappear leaving no trace on the workstation. When at work you keep working… or at least pretend working.

So, since portable games are of the highest interest we have added some games to the Apps Depot, the essential feature of CodySafe Σ. Those of you who already possess Sigma may enjoy the feature right away.
